A company is not a family – but teams are.

In no way would I ever consider a company my family, let alone a friend. There is too much self-interest, corporate politics, and inane bureaucracy to ever allow for anything remotely resembling a personal relationship.

But teams? Well, there is an opportunity to create a culture of support, respect, collaboration, and placing others above self. It’s smaller, the group’s goals are clearer and better aligned with each individual’s personal goals, and there’s a depth of communication that allows for the forging of strong relationships and mutual understanding and respect. Keep it small and keep it powerful. Have each other’s back, have fun, and enjoy the diversity of your little tribe. Be proactive in creating this family and sustaining it over time. It will serve you and your teammates well.
